With modern family living busier than ever these days, our clients wanted to update their arts & crafts home to make it work better for their family of 5. Its previous form was more restrictive and didn’t have room to grow with their brood as they transitioned from young children to young adults.

 

The main structural changes were firstly in the roof space as we transformed the apex of the home into 2 new guest bedrooms, 1 including an en-suite shower room for out-of-town relatives or friends to stay.

 

The second structural change was on the ground floor with a re-configuration and complete refurbishment of the existing rooms to create a new large open plan living space at the rear of the property to gain much sought-after natural light, create a new kitchen/dining/living room space for their family to come together at the end of a busy day to eat, study, play and relax together. Our clients wanted a brand new tailor-made kitchen to be the focal point of this part of the house, with an island big enough for the whole family to be able to sit around and an emphasis on storage! In addition, we added a small side extension to the right hand-side of the property to gain a utility room/pantry space as well as a garage, featuring custom made oak doors. The other rooms on this floor include a snug for the family or kids to hang out with a bespoke built-in window seat for additional seating and storage, the downstairs WC with adjoining cloak area is a unique space with some stunning features and on the opposite side of the hallway a home office.

 

On the middle level all of the children’s rooms were re-decorated and the master bedroom was transformed to include a practical walk-through wardrobe, leading onto a new and secluded en-suite shower room.

 

Changes to the exterior of the property include 2 dormer windows in new bedrooms within the loft conversion, a new custom-made garage door and new stunning oak shiplap cladding which we applied to the ground floor exterior elevation of the house, adding visual appeal, natural insulation and a waterproof façade.
